HIPAA Overview

The federal government recently passed the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996. As of April 2003, the HIPAA Law has been implemented
and is now in effect. This HIPAA education program will provide the reader a general
discussion on new regulations and privacy requirements for all health related information
and record keeping requirements.
Mandatory training and adherence to the law is strictly required and enforced for all
healthcare providers. Medical personnel must be cognizant and knowledgeable of the
new HIPAA laws. These laws affect the confidentiality of an individual’s insurance,
electronic transactions, and in general, all matters related to healthcare.
